One of the first counseling jobs I had was working with teens in the wilderness. One thing I learned from that experience was that teens struggle with a lot of the same issues adults do and their struggle should be taken seriously. Another thing I learned from the parents of the teens I counseled was that when you are not able to help your child it is extremely frustrating. Just like adults sometimes teens need help from a professional that family members cannot provide.
Please know that if you are a parent looking for help for your teen you have come to the right place. And if you are a teen looking for counseling for yourself I will not just tell you to grow up or get over it. I will listen to your concerns and together we will come up with a plan to help you start to feel better about, yourself, your school or whatever it is that is causing you concern.
If you are a teen who is 13 or over you have the same confidentiality rights as an adult. This means I won’t talk to your parents about what you tell me in counseling unless you decide you want me to. This can often be concerning for parents but is needed for any individual to explore matters that may be concerning them. I offer a free 30 minute consultation to help discuss your concerns and answer any other questions you might have about receiving counseling for yourself or your teenager.
